Dental crowns, also known as caps, are tooth-shaped coverings that are placed over a damaged tooth in order to protect it from further damage or mask its appearance. They are customized to blend in with natural teeth, so those around you won’t notice that you have an artificial tooth.
If you have a cracked or chipped tooth, we can place a crown over it to protect it from further damage. Once we’ve prepared your tooth for restoration, we’ll take an impression of your mouth and create a custom crown to fit your smile perfectly. We’ll secure it in place with durable dental cement. Then, you can use your new crown just like your old tooth! Be sure to care for it with regular brushing and flossing.
A dental bridge is a custom restoration that is used to replace one or more missing teeth. The bridge is comprised of two dental crowns that are placed on either side of the gap in your smile. The crowns are then bonded to prosthetic teeth called pontics that fill in the empty spaces in your smile. If you are missing a single tooth, your pontic will be crafted out of a single crown-like porcelain piece. If you are missing multiple adjacent teeth, the pontic will consist of a series of artificial teeth that are cemented together. The crowns and pontics will be made from high-quality porcelain to ensure that they are both durable and provide a natural appearance for your smile.
To make your restorations, we will need to prepare your teeth by filing down some of the enamel to make room for the crowns. Impressions of your mouth will be taken and sent to our dental lab, where your custom bridge will be created. In about two weeks, you will return to our office to have your permanent bridge cemented into place using a special type of dental cement. Once in place, your new dental bridge will look and function just like your natural teeth. You can care for it like you would your natural teeth with regular brushing and flossing.
Veneers are thin shells of tooth-colored materials to cover your teeth' fronts. Your dentist may recommend them if you have problems with your front teeth, such as cracks or stains, or if you have teeth that are out of proportion with each other. The veneer process typically involves a few appointments. At your first visit, your dentist will take x-rays and discuss your reason for getting veneers to determine what material suits you.
During your second visit, the dentist in Agoura Hills, CA, will take an impression of your teeth and send it to the lab where your permanent veneer will be made. In the meantime, you’ll wear temporary ones to get used to having something covering the front of your teeth. Once your permanent veneers are ready, you’ll be called back to have the final product in place. There may be some sensitivity after the placement of your new veneers, but this should subside over the following weeks.
ClearCorrect consists of clear, removable aligners that gradually shift teeth into their correct position. Each aligner is approximately three millimeters thick and is made of medical-grade plastic that is BPA-free and safe for your mouth. Unlike traditional braces, ClearCorrect is invisible when worn, so others will not notice that you are undergoing treatment unless you tell them!
The length of treatment with ClearCorrect varies by the patient; however, on average, patients wear changing sets of aligners for 22 hours a day during the active phase of treatment and change to a new set every two to three weeks. Then, the retention phase begins once treatment is complete. During this final phase, you will wear a retainer to prevent your teeth from shifting back into their previous positions.
